Ladies turn. I’ve mentally prepared myself for a night of disappointment. I do think the girls have more talent – as in more of them have talent – but I’m not sure that they’ll be able to do the 70s. For the most part they’re all pretty young and probably are pretty clueless to the songs of the decade. I’m not one to talk, being born in ’82 myself, but these some of these girls were born in the 90s!
So we’ll see how this goes.
Is Ryan wearing jeans tonight? Did I just see jeans? Wow – he is. While I’m on the wardrobe critique, it’s great to see Randy in a very springy Cardigan sweater. That yellow is cute, huh?
Carly Smithson is up first. Do you notice the reversal of the early “favorites” that both closed the show last week. They both opened it this week. Carly received harsh critiques last week, so I’m sure she felt extra pressure this week. I’m not familiar with this song, but what does an Irish chick know about the disco era anyway? She’s doing well, I still really like her. I still think she has a little Celine Dion in her voice. Oh Heart sang this? Duh. I should know that. She sang Heart in Hollywood too. Simon doesn’t dig the song too much. Well if you keep restricting people with these themes then that’s what you get! Just sayin.
Syesha Mercado. She’s an actress – in the world of commercials and can cry like a baby. I thought she was fantastic last week but so far this performance is not very good. She needs to sing something more fresh, this is too “old” for her. It’s boring and she is not a boring girl. She can certainly sing but I agree with the judges. A bit pitchy on softer notes and not the right song. Simon things it is indulgent. I just wonder why she wanted to sing this song.
Brooke White’s turn. She looks different this week. I think they’re easing her toward the flat iron. Give it a few weeks – she’ll be as sleek and shiny as Danny Noriega. I love this song! It reminds me of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and she sort of looks like Kate Hudson up there. She’s super talented. She’s folksy, poppy and adult contemporary all wrapped in one. This is my favorite so far. Did you guys catch Simon’s comment when she was singing her last note? I told you he had a thing for her. He’s totally flattered by the “vain” shout-out. He’s spot on with his comments about her too. Love her. And she’s being sweet to Ryan by sitting next to him while he announces the numbers. This is his one “tall” moment of the season so far.
Ramilie Malubay. She’s adorable and has great taste in shoes. I’m digging those t-straps. Sweet, this is a perfect song for her. It’s fun and showcases her range. She could record an album today. Maybe Timbaland could work with her. He makes everything great. What? Did I miss something – why does Randy not like it? That was so good. Paula and Simon aren’t feeling it either? I loved it. And for the record, I never hear this song. I don’t think this is a popular wedding song. It’s not like she sang Abba or anything. Whatev. Ryan wants her to stick around, because he towers over her even in heels. She must be borderline midget.
Kristy Lee Cook is next. She’s a tomboy at heart. I can tell. A girly girl wouldn’t pick that outfit out. Is she going to club Idol after the show or something? I need to break this chick down. What is her shtick? Is she country? Is she trying to rock out? I am not enjoying this at all. I guess she can sing but it’s a little too high school talent show. Randy and Paula are wack. They hate on Ramilie but they rave about her. Simon and I are once again in sync. He’s confused by her as well. She’s still trying to milk that flu bug she had last week. Boo hoo.
Naughty-nurse rocker chick Amanda Overmyer is up. Yikes. She looks like bridezilla. That hair is terrible. My nephew really likes her – he’s in first grade. Destined for a life of chasing bad girls maybe? Kidding, kidding. This is not very good. I feel like she is trying too hard. I miss Brooke White. Can she sing again? Paula thinks Amanda can dance. Maybe she’ll make a cameo in Paula and Randy’s next video. Simon thinks this is indulgent too. I agree with that critique this time.
Alaina Whitaker. She’s OCD with her food. I can relate. This song is so-so, but I think she has a great voice. She’s everything that Kristy Lee Cook wants to be. For 17, she has a mature voice. Dan likes her. He thought she was cute last week. I am not surprised that the judges aren’t wowed by her performance. It’s sort of what you get when you sing a Grease song. Simon wasn’t crazy about it but he likes her. Remember he felt that way about Carrie Underwood? He primed her from the get-go.
Alexandrea Lushington is up. If she makes it big, I think she’s going to have to drop either the alex or andrea. I vote for Andrea Lush. Just shorten it altogether. My husband declared that he loves this song. He also says that she borrowed his shorts for the show tonight. Now he’s bored and pissed that she’s messing with one of his favorite songs. This is BAD. What was she thinking? I didn’t like her last week that much and this solidifies it. She can’t hang with Brooke White and Ramilie. Again with Paula and Randy. Why are they playing softball with her? Her vocals just aren’t strong enough. Quit this “you’re relevant” speak Paula!
Kady Malloy’s next. Wow, there really are a lot of blonde chicks in this competition. I like her – she’s funny. Her Simon impression was really good. First thoughts – great song choice. It’s really showcasing her as a fun, bad girl. Kristy Lee Cook – eat your heart out. She finished that really strong. Dan says it didn’t “do it for him.” Randy’s using his pitchy card on her tonight. Am I tone deaf? I didn’t get any of that from this. Maybe it wasn’t fantastic but it wasn’t deserving of that critique. Simon has never heard this song? How is that possible?
Closing the show is Asia’h Epperson. Good choice, she is so sassy. I loved her last week. I’m excited to hear what she’s going to sing. All by Myself. I love this song when Celine sings it. This is terrible – she’s bombing! My heart goes out to her because I don’t think anyone expected that. Even her high notes sound screechy. She’ll make it past this week, she can belt out the notes. Ok, she’s sick. I could tell, her voice was really hoarse. And in true Idol fashion, there is no harsh criticism for the show closer. Simon was the only one to go there. I just feel bad for her.
Who’s going home? This is so much harder to guess with the girls. I say Amanda Overmyer and Alexandrea Lushington. That Kristy Lee gets under my skin, but I think she’ll make it this week.
How about everyone else? Do you agree? Does Kristy Lee just make me you want to throw coasters at the tv?
**Note: After I posted this, I checked my email and saw that Ed (the original "Seer") weighed in on Kristy Lee's performance. It went something like this: "I just saw Kristy Lee's performance across the newsroom with no sound. Best Idol performance ever."

I'm totally hating on Kristy Lee also. I loved brooke, more than I thought I would. I cannot wait till they send the bride of frankenstein nasty-ass Amanda home.
I think the girls are not as talented as the men. I had a hard time listening to all of the bad performances last night. Thank goodness for fast forward. I did like Brooke the best. I could hardly stand looking at Amanda~yuck. My daughter loves the girl who did Grease. I think she voted for her a dozen times last night.
I'm loving Brooke and I think she's my favorite girl. I just don't like most of the music they're picking and it's tough for me to look past that.
I totally thought the judges were on crack last night. Kristy Lee Cook was totally boring and did NOT have a good voice and looked TERRIBLE and yet the judges let her off the hook because she was marginally better than last week? It just goes to show that you should set the bar low. And Amanda can't dance AT ALL. I don't know WHAT Paula was smoking when she said that she could.
My guess is that Amanda and Kady are going home. Or maybe I'm confusing "guess" with "hope."
Who will go home? I can hardly remember any of them...I'm sure when my son watches Amanda's performance (had to be in bed) he'll think Cruella DeVille from 101 dalmations, dance? I thought she was having a seizure, I was really embarrased for her!
I think the impersonator and Alexandrea will go home.
I'm lovin' the old ones this season (Brooke, Carly, Michael). For the record I use to sing into the curling iron to "Your so Vain" spinning on LP!!!yikes I'm old
