Idol night – or should I say Idol deja-vu. The show hasn’t started but I’m annoyed they are recycling last week’s theme. No doubt, the Beatles are amazing but I don’t want to hear these yahoos try to do this again. Once was enough! How about some current hits? They haven’t been given the chance to sing anything from this decade yet.
Rant aside, I’m going into this show with an open mind. I still am no fan of Jason Castro’s but I won’t prejudge. Maybe he’ll sway me tonight.
Woah – Paula! Lay off the shiny clothes. Maybe she borrowed that shirt from Kristy Lee?
First up tonight is Amanda Overmeyer. She says she is going to put some black eyeliner on this performance. Gah. If I had to hear her sing for more than 3 minutes, I might go crazy. Can you imagine going to see her in concert? She is so “I’ve been smoking for 45 years” and all I got was this voice. This is not impressive at all. I bet she thinks she really opened the show, rocked it out, but honey, no. It was none of that. Randy and his sideburns think her performance worked itself out. Paula is a motivational speaker tonight and is requesting a vulnerable ballad at some point from AO. Simon speaks the truth. Thank goodness. At least she didn’t hold up her finger and wave it around when Ryan announced her voting number.
Kristy Lee Cook is up. Ok, I was joking before but I really think her and Paula coordinated their outfits tonight. Listen up girlfriend. You’re probably going home tonight and really it’s about time. You’re just not very good. Please don’t pull that country Beatles crap tonight. Here she goes. This blows. She’s off key big time! The best part about this performance is that they will really cut her apart and that I will enjoy. Paula threw her a shoutout on the outfit. Did you see her reaction – “oh, my dress should be longer….” Hehe, giggle giggle. Please. I bet you know how to skank it up Kristy Lee.
The DA – David Archuleta – is up next. He fell from his high cloud last week. I think he is very talented, but he irks me in certain ways. I will agree with my sister Tricia that his lip licking habit during his performance is distracting. This is pretty decent though. He has a recording voice, but I think he needs to move past these Star Search performances. He seems stuck in that mode. Hey, they tweezed his eyebrows some. Great! He totally needed that. Paula is a fan. She thinks he can “rise from adversity.” What jibberish is she spouting? The kid forgot his words. That ain’t adversity. That’s just lazy.
Michael Johns is up. Smart move, reminding us of your best performance ever during Hollywood week. I am rooting for him. Call him a pretty boy but he has got the moves. He can do it, he just needs to bring it out. Unleash your sexiness! Ooh, good song. See – this is what I’m talking about! I love his moves and his facial expressions and his bopping around and his butt….um, I’ll stop now. But really, I am digging the booty shots. Thanks Fox! I’m quoting Paula here, but I feel “his heart.” Randy’s hating. Was I distracted by the tush? Cause I dug it. Simon thought it was a mess. And he’s comparing him to DA? Can’t do that, uh-uh. Controversy over the earpieces. Who cares.
Brooke White! Yay! I’m on DVR delay, but my sources tell me it’s good. Actually, my coworker and friend Amanda texted me and said, “If I were a lesbian, I’d try to date Brooke White.” Right there with you! She is amazing. She’s doing “Here Comes the Sun.” Very cute with her pretty yellow dress. I’ll tell you why Brooke is amazing. First, she’s talented. Two, she’s unique. I mean really, imagine Amanda Overmeyer or Kristy Lee singing this? Not that they could pull it off due to the cute factor but they just aren’t as good. Straight up. I’m shocked that the judges hated it. Am I off tonight? I usually agree with Simon, but even he hated on it. I think Paula’s just jealous. Back off you washed up hag! Brooke is fresh and “Dance Like There’s no Tomorrow” is soooo yesterday. I also don’t like they just critiqued her dance moves and not her singing.
David Cook time. Sweet. I love it already. I’m mesmerized by him. I love the electric guitar. He is in a league of his own. If you put him and John Mayer in a room together and let me have at them, I’d be really happy. Not that DC can match JM’s guitar abilities, but I’ll take what I can get during Idol. Randy took the words out of my mouth, each week is really another performance of the David Cook concert. He reminds me of Chris Daughtry in a way. Not sound necessarily, but the fact that he is makes a lot of these other contenders look very amateur and he could go make a hit record probably next week. Simon knocked him down a notch, but I think that was a smart move. Keep him on his toes!
Carly Smithson time. I love her shirt! She’s doing “Blackbird.” I’m excited to hear her do a ballad. I think she’s great. Somewhat boring but her voice kills. Again, I hear this and then I shudder and recall Amanda Overmeyer’s performance. You can’t compare them at all. Carly’s in a different league as well. (But Amanda is the Vote for the Worst candidate, so you know, she’ll stick around for a few more.) Carly is fighting back on Simon’s “indulgent” comment. Good for her. I didn’t get that at all from her. I think he’s in the mood to knock people down tonight.
Jason Castro is up. I am turning a new leaf. I will not critique him until this is over. I will listen to the whole thing and be fair. I will say, however, I’m sad to see the dreads are still with us. Can I comment on the outfit? It’s all very feminine. Those are some low rise jeans he’s got on and that shirt tucked in is a nightmare. Ok, I’m diving in. This blows. I’m so flipping bored. Quit with the subdued songs. If they don’t get on him for his “dance moves” I’m stepping in on behalf of Brooke. He knows he sucked and now he’s making excuses. Thank you Simon!!! He agrees that the Beatles repeat was not a good idea.
Syesha Mercado. I forgot about her. I’ll be honest, tonight is dragging on. It just seems endless. Her most memorable moment? Being in the bottom three last week. A wake up call of some sort she says. She’s singing “Yesterday.” This could be fantastic. I love this song. I’m glad that there have been some big hits sung tonight. She’s doing great, and I think it’s reminiscent of what I liked about Syesha from the beginning. She’s middle of the road for me overall, but I would rather listen to her over AM or Kristy Lee any day. Gosh, I’m so hating on those two tonight!
Chikezie’s up next. He did well last night but I don’t get excited about him. Gah, he’s playing the harmonica. Note to Chikezie: if you don’t play an instrument, don’t force it just cause the others are playing theirs. This isn’t wonderful, but it’s decent. Or should I say, was decent. The harmonica and everything that followed was bad. Why is he doing country? Wrong on so many levels. Simon agreed with me. Randy thought the opposite – he dug the country. Strange night indeed.
Ramilie Mulaby is closing us down tonight. I almost forgot about her! She’s also going back to her roots – upbeat and fun. I’ve always been a fan of her, but this is pretty bad. I’m ready for tonight to be done. Can we also be done with the Beatles songbook? Maybe bust it out next season. These people have no business singing these songs anymore! Ramilie’s working it out, but this is not her era. She sounds and looks a little silly. I don’t feel the “connection.”
But who is going home? This is so tough. I hit it right with David Hernandez, and I’d like to keep up this record. I’m going Kristy Lee Cook tonight. I just think it is her week to go. She’s squeaked by every week but her time has come. See ya Kristy Lee!
What do you think? Please tell me you did not like Jason Castro?!

David stole my heart last night!
I'm gonna have to vote for Kristy as well... she's just not cutting it. Last night was rough for almost everyone. Maybe they'll get a new theme and back on track next week. Thanks for the recap.
I actually stopped watching last night because I was bored and couldn't wait for it to be done. It must be the songs. I did like David Cook. The rest forgettable. I look forward to a different genre of music next week..or at least we can hope. Thanks Laurie on your insight because I did turn it off.
I think that Brooke is way too self-righteous and needs to stop telling the judges that it's okay that they're critiquing her and that she'll deal with it. They already know that, she's not running the show, and she doesn't need to tell them not to worry about what they're saying, because chances are, they weren't worried to begin with.
Also I think Carly is pregnant. At least she dresses like she is in tons of flowy tops with distracting details that draw your eyes away from her stomach. If an established celebrity wore clothes like that every single day then the pregnancy rumors would be flying.
I totally agree with you on Ramiele and Kristy and I hope that Kristy finally goes this week. Also I thought Syesha was boring and if she could be nothing more than okay on a great song like Yesterday, that's it for her. There's no way she can win it.
I missed the first 4 performances and I did not rewind my DVR to see them, who cares! I liked Carly and David Cook, the rest yawn. I did think (from the 15 sec re-cap) that Michael sounded okay, but not enough to make me watch.
I hope Ramiele goes home, but I think it will be Krisy Lee Cook.
These 2 hour shows are getting a bit ridiculous.
Hopefully we can hear something a bit more modern next week.
