So........yeah, Betty is in the "doghouse." Pun intended.
I've been kind of absent this week - if you've been following my Twitter feed, you'll know I've been doing some travel for work.
And I think our pup is acting out!
When we moved, we made the decision to leave Betty out of her crate. She's a year old now and we thought that there was more space she would have more to do. There are more places for her to lay down, windows to look out of and full access to toys.
The first four days were great - but today I got an angry call from my husband telling me that Betty chewed my MacBook cord (this is the second time she's down this, $80 down the drain) and she also severed our ethernet cable that Comcast installed. Ugh!
What gives is my question? Is she still too young at 12.5 months old? When will she "get it?" I really want to give her freedom but her favorite "chew toys" are kind of dangerous and frickin expensive!
Need help please.

Chief acted out a TON when we moved last April. She was two years old, but she still was just getting used to her surroundings. Oh boy. I hope your little girl gets better about it!
I think she is old enough, but all the changes are probably making her anxious. Hopefully things will cool down soon!
She is old enough they say when dogs chew when they have nervous energy. Is she still getting her daily walks? Hope you like the windy city...I left you something on my blog.
The cord again? Maybe try to give her 'freedom' in one room. Can you lock her somewhere she cant do too much damage?
They make this spray stuff called bitter apple that you can get at pet stores. Get some and spray it on anything and everything you think she might chew up. SadieMutt used to do that and we got that stuff and it curbed most of her chewing tendencies. Occasionally, for what seems like no reason, she will chew up paper.
Our pups are 2 & 5 and are crated whenever we are not home. There's NO WAY I'll ever trust them. Rules like no getting on the couch or bed would never be followed :) Crating isn't 'mean' - it's their place to call home :) It's healthy for pups to have a place of their own :) We even crate ours together - which is something they started - not us! But it's nice to only have one crate in the house!
Give her a little extra play time but be firm when she acts out. My MIL uses this voice when she corrects her dog.
She kind of sings "No, no, you can't eat off my plate."
I have to say. If it were me, I wouldn't stop eating off her plate either.
I second the bitter apple!!! We used it for our lab and it cured him of the chewies!! The only bad thing about it is that it wears off after a few days so you must reapply for a week or so until she learns not to chew on it.
...our dog likes underware and socks, any help with that?!?!
We crated Rufus until he was nearly 2 years old. He actually still goes in his crate during the day to nap. Even now, though, the dogs are baby-gated in a dog-approved area of the house. I just don't trust them to not get into trouble!
And my Kaya loves the taste of bitter apple. It makes her lick things even more!
