Class A Commercial Driver’s License
February 6, 2012 6:30 am Education NewsBefore undergoing a CDL training there are certain considerations that a driver should really think of. First of these considerations is what type of vehicles will he be driving or will he choose to drive upon acquiring a commercial driver’s license. Considering the vehicle type is crucial since a commercial driver’s license is issued bearing what class of vehicle is a driver allowed to handle.
There is a strict requirement that only the class of vehicles that is printed in the commercial driver’s license should be driven by a CDL holder. Depending on the class of vehicle that a person may choose to drive, certain qualifications should also be met before the issuance of a commercial driver’s license.
Majority of those who are applying for a commercial driver’s license are those who are seeking to achieve a class A CDL. This is primarily because having a Class A commercial driver’s license will allow a driver to handle all commercial vehicles including those that are under the Class C and Class B CDL.
A Class A commercial driver’s license is issued to those who are able to complete the test and submit all the requirements needed to drive a vehicle which has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26, 001 or more. Another requirement of a Class A CDL is that the vehicle being towed must not be less than 10,000 pounds, as a vehicle towing lesser than 10, 000 pounds is considered under the Class B classification.
Vehicles falling under the Class A commercial driver’s license classification include the usual large trucks that are used to transport tons of goods or cargoes to different places.
